“...always being
prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and
respect, having a good conscience”
—1 Peter 3:15-16
C. S. Lewis once said, "I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen, not only because I see it but because by it I see everything else."
I share Lewis' sentiments because I believe Christianity is a reasonable faith based upon evidence and the facts of history as well as one that helps us see truth and the world around us better. God's Word in the Bible is the lens through which I can see the world better. Christianity sheds light upon truth, the human condition, and everything else as they truly are (e.g. the wickedness and corruption of a heart apart from God, our utter hopelessness without God, our need of a Savior, etc.). As Dr. Cornelius Van Til once said: Christianity can be shown to be, not 'just as good as' or even 'better than' the non-Christian position, but the only position that does not make nonsense of human experience.
- Does God exist? If God exists, why doesn't He show Himself so that we will all believe in Him?
- Why do you trust the Bible even though it was written so long ago?
- I'm a good enough person, won't a good moral life get me to heaven?
- If God is so powerful, why doesn't He destroy all evil and suffering out of this earth today?
- How could you Christians believe the outrageous claim that Jesus rose from the dead?
- Don't all religions basically teach the same thing and lead to God in the end?
- How can a loving God allow a sinful individual to go to hell?
